Liptrap Loft - Cabin on 5 Acres : Liptrap

Liptrap Loft is a getaway for those who enjoy experiencing wildlife and nature in a charming rural setting. Welcome to a handmade house that blends modern Japanese-influenced architecture with recycled materials to create an absolute of one-of-a-kind place.

We fell in love with this quirky property the moment we saw it and bought it in 2005 from the original owner-builder, Jim. Designed and built meticulously by a single pair of hands, the Loft reflects his passion for using recycled and unusual materials in imaginative ways. His craftsmanship is visible everywhere, and his interest in the flow of energy gives the space a subtle, calming presence.

We’re convinced that this energy is what makes the Loft such a special escape for our guests, and it’s what inspired the beginnings of Dufflebird Getaways. Jim sold the property to pursue his dream of becoming an architect, and we’ve been its caretakers ever since.

Liptrap Loft is more cabin than house: one big, charming, open-plan space with everything you need for a romantic weekend away or a slow summer stay with family. Our favourite feature is the outdoor Japanese Bath House, perfect for an evening soak under the stars or a lazy afternoon watching for roos, wallabies, wombats, koalas, and beautiful birdlife.

Just over two hours south-east of Melbourne, Liptrap Loft sits on five acres of bushland, tucked between Tarwin Lower and Walkerville on the Prom Coast. It’s private, peaceful, and perfectly positioned. Only a 30-minute drive to the entrance of Wilsons Promontory National Park, with its rugged headlands, wild beaches and endless places to explore.

Things To Do
Pack your hiking boots and swimsuit - Liptrap Loft is perfectly positioned to explore South Gippsland’s stunning coastline. From Cape Liptrap and Walkerville to Waratah Bay, Sandy Point, and the iconic Wilsons Promontory, adventure is never far away.

We provide a detailed Things To Do guide on booking, highlighting local wineries, distilleries, artisan producers, rail trails, and the best eateries.

Of course, many guests simply stay on the property. With peaceful bushland surrounds, nearby walking trails, and wildlife all around, it’s the perfect spot to switch off, unwind, and enjoy the slower pace of life.

~The Finer Details ~

Rates are based on two guests, with additional guests at $50 per person, per night. This approach keeps the listing great value for couples and flexible for families or small groups.

Entertainment: Board games, books, multiple Sonos speakers, and WiFi provided. No TV on site - guests love the chance to truly disconnect, though streaming is possible on personal devices.

Pets: Dogs are welcome but must stay off furniture and beds. Property has basic three-wire fencing (mildly electric) and is not dog-proof, especially for escape artists - please supervise pets. A strict “no trace” policy keeps the property comfortable for everyone.

Wildlife: Expect wombats, koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, and echidnas. Mosquito and bug supplies are provided. Snakes possible in warmer months.

Heating & Cooling: We have a split system in the main loft plus a wood fireplace, the second bedroom beyond the barn doors has an electric wall panel heater.

Rubbish: Please take all rubbish with you; no collection service is available.

Bathrooms: Main bath is outside via a duckboard walkway. Second toilet (powder room) also outside near front door. Not suitable for those with mobility issues.

House Rules: No smoking indoors, no candles.

Country living means we're on tank water with electric hot water (not instant gas). One bath per stay is ideal – daily is possible if you're mindful and half-fill only. That gorgeous big bath depletes the hot water quickly. Showers are no problem anytime.

This unique, off-the-beaten-path escape is unforgettable - but it’s not for everyone. Make sure it’s the right fit and check our postponement & cancellation terms before booking
