Liptrap Loft is a getaway for those who enjoy experiencing wildlife and nature in a charming rural setting.

Liptrap Loft is a handmade house that blends modern Japanese-influenced architecture with recycled materials to create an absolute of one-of-a-kind place. We fell in love with the quirky place and bought it in 2005, from Jim. Jim had sourced interesting recycled materials and built it pedantically by hand.  A combination of his passion, his craftsmanship and interest in energy flow can be felt in the overall result.

We started renting the house out to holiday makers soon after. As popularity grew we were able to invest the income back into the property, based on feedback from guests and our vision of how it should grow. To our surprise we really liked having people stay and enjoy the place. It is extraordinary to find so many people who share the passion we have for it. From these humble beginning, it has grown in to Dufflebird - Unique Getaways for the Curious.

Liptrap Loft is probably more like a cabin than a house. Its one big open plan loft with kitchen, dining, living, King 4 poster bed. There is a second room off the main loft which was once the veranda but now an enclosed bed room. The second room has 2 double beds. We say the place is ideal for couples but can sleep 6. There are walkways which connect the house to the laundry building and also the Japanese Bath House. The is a second toilet just next to the front door.

Liptrap Loft is unique and rustic. If you are a “5 star – no less!” type of person, it probably won’t be for you.

Just over two hours south-east of Melbourne, Liptrap Loft is hidden among the lush farmland of South Gippsland between Tarwin Lower and Walkerville on the Promontory Coast. The relatively unexplored nearby coastline is often compared to Tasmania due to its rugged charm and stunning secluded beaches. It’s only a 30-minute drive from Liptrap Loft to Wilsons Promontory National Park. It is  5 minute drive to Walkerville Beach.

Over the years Liptrap Loft has been a finalist and also won some awards:

Exceeded our expectations

Every review will use the terms quirky, rustic and unique - and this is all true. What blew me away though was the thought that has gone into making sure that everything you need is available and has its perfect spot. The quality of the linen and the bathroom products also belies the 'simplicity' of this property. My teenage daughters loved our stay. We rode bikes, talked to cows, spotted wombats and echidnas, admired the bush art installations and toured around the area. It is a gorgeous property. Congratulations Fleur on your beautiful property.

Thanks Alex for staying and we are so pleased you loved Liptrap Loft, the 5 acres and region. We have worked really hard to listen to guest feedback and add in things that people thought were missing over the years. So it lovely to read you could sense the attention to those details.

A wonderful stay

We were given two night at Liptrap Loft to celebrate my birthday by my family. We were a bit reluctant as the night before we left it was pouring and snow flurries on the hills but the days opened up clear, calm, and warm. The house itself is unique and extremely comfortable and the exact opposite of a white painted minimalist box. It is made of wood everywhere except some touches of galvanised metal, and has a wonderful elevated steel Balinese bed only a few metres from the big old Coonara which makes it a lovely place to relax on a cold night and enjoy the total peace and quietness of the place. We were not the slightest bit cold although the temp dipped to a frost outside, lit by a full moon. During the day the air was warm and still and i was able to sunbathe on the steps of the bath house, draw, read, and generally hang out. If we had been there longer we would have gone to various beauty spots in the area but the place itself is a beauty spot. The Japanese bath topped off the day and we were so relaxed we were unable to think about going out for a meal so had simple food including baked spuds done in alfoil in the Coonara. All in all a lovely time - highly recommended.

Liptrap loft

We had a wonderful time at liptrap loft. Was exactly what we needed and was our sort of style. .Refreshingly quirky and country with plenty of space and privacy. And only a few minutes drive to the beach. The best of both worlds for us to appreciate and experience. . We will be back again!

Replenishing !

We loved our stay at Liptrap Loft The property is well-set up, impeccably clean, and most importantly, away from the maddening crowds. Our kids loved the place, as did we. Definitely coming back !!

We had a wonderful time!

Some friends and I stayed at Liptrap Loft over 3 nights. The house was exactly as described, beautiful, open living with lovely light, lots of space outside for our dog and the Japanese spa bathroom was lovely. Fluer was extremely helpful during the booking process and she was also available to answer any questions we had about walks around the area. We visited a beautiful hidden beach near by, we were short drives away from waterfalls and lovely scenery. We had everything we needed and enjoyed having such a nice outdoor space to relax in the sun. I left my clothes behind by accident and Fleur was even very helpful with arranging them to be returned to me. The beds were all comfortable, the king size four poster was gorgeous. We had beautiful nights by the fire place. Perfect place for a relaxing getaway! We wish we had longer.

Slice of HEAVEN!!!!

This has to be the most relaxing way to get away from it all. We had the best time sitting by the fire in the evening and looking at the little lambs in the paddock chasing each other around. Then there's the bath, it's just wonderful!!! Make sure you get in that tub, pull the doors back and soak it up :) Also so many good day trips down to the beach and to Waratah Winery. Can't wait to get back.

Exceptional Quality

Beautiful house, you could feel the love in this home. It was in immaculate condition when we arrived. The photos really dont do it justice! The super king bed was so comfortable. The house was easy to find! It really was a stress free holiday. Fleur was very accomidating and provided easy to follow directions and was more then happy to answer my 100 questions. Couldn't have asked for a better stress free holiday!
