A Joy Beach House is exactly what a beach house should offer: A relaxed, home away from home, close to the beach and big enough to find your own space.
Merricks Beach and the region offers plenty to do apart from the beach, but you’re just as likely to laze around the house.
It’s only natural that you’ll love this unique coastal location with the beautiful swimming beach, yacht club and coastal trails within a short walk, plus the fabulous northerly aspect and tranquil garden setting amongst the gum trees.
In winter, go for a beach walk then curl up in front of either the two open fire places. Cook up a banquet and gather around the feasting table, while the kids have a table tennis tournament.
This spacious 3 bedroom home is ideal for families and couples. Two living areas allow kids to have their own space. It has an ideal casual dining / family room to the rear that enjoys the garden views and has a rustic decor that’s finished in mud brick walls, recycled timber feature beams and red brick floors. Large window panels and French doors bring in an abundance of natural light and garden views.
Come through the breezeway to a separate wing with an open plan kitchen / meals and lounge with polished floors or out through big French doors to the paved terrace that provides a protected spot for meals and entertaining on the lawns. Splashes of colour from wild flowers and the native plantings are enhanced by the back drop of gum trees and semi-rural acres to the rear.
Low maintenance and definitely unassuming from the street front, this wonderful beach house will be the home of many happy memories of time away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Merricks Beach is a hidden gem. It is located on the eastern side of the Mornington Peninsula on Western Port Bay. It is one of the few coastal places within a 100 km radius of Melbourne that has been basically untouched by development. All of the streets are still unsealed and it has experienced little change since the 1960s. Walkers rule the streets and children are still found riding their bikes. Traffic is kept to a minimum. There is no shop.
When you are there, its hard to believe that the quiet, rustic little seaside hamlet (of only 250 houses) is less than 90 minutes from Melbournes CBD.
Things To Do
Balnarring shops are only five minutes drive and the village has all usual facilities, including a large supermarket, bakery, restaurants specialty stores and a medical clinic.
The Merricks beach is the obvious main attraction. You can swim at the beach anytime, and at any tide and it is safe for kids. Others local beaches are a worthwhile short drive -Point Leo (Surf) , Balnarring, Sommers, Shoreham and Flinders has bay and surf beaches and great snorkeling.
Peninsula Hot Springs & Day Spa has thermal mineral pools with an emphasis on tranquil spaces, revitalisation and well-being. It has a day spa and cafe and is a definite favourite of our guests.
The surrounding region is known for its rolling hills, horses, stunning coastal vistas and good food and wine. The Red Hill region boasts some of the best eateries, wineries and views in Victoria. It's beautiful. Some of our favourites are :

Bring your own linen. Quilts and Pillows are there, you just need to bring sheets & towels.
3 bedrooms, one bathroom with a bath, second bathroom and laundry combined. We are working on a linen service but its not a reliable option just yet (March 2017).

Bring your own sheets, and towels.
Quilts (with cover) and Pillows (with pillow slips) are provided, you just need to bring sheets, & towels (and extra pillow slips if you like more than one pillow). We provide hand towels, tea towels and bathmats.
Well behaved companion animals are welcome. We just ask that they do not go on furniture or beds. The fencing is not dog proof. No extra charge for dogs. Please advise if you plan to bring them and remove all pet droppings from the yard.
Smoking outside is OK. Collect own butts. No candles please.
There is parking on the property, off street. Parking is not under cover.
The unsealed roads, while charming, mean that the house and windows get a lot of dust.
Cleaning is included in the price, but we expect guests to leave the place in a tidy state (all dishes washed dried and put away), Rubbish and recycling put in outdoor Municipal bins. Bins to be put out on the street on Sunday night. See Terms and Conditions.
